Do You Have a Hand
Made Quilt?
The 21st Upper Cumberland Quilt
Festival is just around the corner and it’s time to take stock of quilts
you have and consider entering one or two or three in the Festival. The
Festival attracts over 2,000 people each September and just ask anyone
who has ever attended some of the area’s most beautiful quilts are on
display. Anyone can enter a quilt. You do not have to have quilted it
you only have to own it to enter it.
This year’s festival promises to be
even bigger and better than ever before but you and your quilt are
needed to make that happen. So why don’t you go open your cedar chest
or blanket chest and take out a quilt or two and plan to enter it in
September.
The Quilt Festival is a primary
fundraiser for the Algood Senior Citizen Center. All proceeds support
the programs of the Center to enrich the lives of our seniors. It’s a
great way to contribute to your community and help enrich the lives of
others.
Entry forms are
available here or by calling John Allen, Coordinator, at
931-252-2755 or Barbara Tolleson, Chair of Quilt Entries, at
931-979-3262.
Entry forms are due by September 1,
2009. Quilts may be dropped off at the Algood Senior Citizen Center on
September 14 between 7:45 am and 6:00 pm. They may be picked up after
the show on Saturday, September 19, between 4:45 pm and 6:00 pm at the
displayed location. Quilts not picked up on Saturday may be picked up
at the Algood Senior Citizen Center the following Monday, September 21.
There is no charge to enter quilts
and ribbons are awarded to many categories of entries. For complete
information about awards please check the website www.quilt-festival.com.
Just ask Barbara Tolleson how easy
it is to enter a quilt. Barbara started the Festival 21 years ago and
served as its coordinator for many years. Barbara owns many beautiful
quilts and it’s because of her love of quilts that the Festival has
grown so much over the years.
Barbara says, “To enter your quilt
all you have to do is fill out a form with your information and
bring your quilt to the Algood Sr. Center on September 14. Sharing your
quilt may give inspiration to others to quilt or to look for family
quilts that need to be treasured. There is a wonderful camaraderie
among the folks entering their quilts and you might win a ribbon!
Quilts are part of our family histories. Let's celebrate them!”
