Quilt Categories  and Judging    

Deadlines
 

  • Entry forms are due by 1 Sept. 2009

  • Quilts drop off at Algood Senior Center Sept. 14, 7:45 am – 6:00 pm

  • Pick-up time:  Sat. 4:45 – 6:00pm at the displayed location

Quilts not picked up on Saturday are at Algood Senior Center the following Monday, 21 Sept.

Categories:

  •  Challenge Quilt –(20”x20”) “Piece” of Christmas Joy

  • Wall Hanging—Small, under 36”x36”—Ribbons awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd

  • Wall Hanging--Large, over 36”x36”--Ribbons awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd

  • Appliquéd Bed Quilt—completed 2006 or since (any size, twin, full, queen, king)

  • Pieced Bed Quilt—completed 2006 or since (any size, twin, full, queen, king)

  • Bed Quilt—made before 2006 (including antique quilts) not eligible for judging but will be hung if sleeve is on quilt.  Will be displayed on church pews if no sleeve is available

All quilts are eligible for “viewer’s choice” awards except for challenge quilts.

Qualifications:

  • Quilts must have 4” hanging sleeve – antique quilts w/o sleeves will be displayed on church pews

  • All entries must hang for duration of show.  Cannot be removed for any reason until designated pick up time.

  • All entries must have name of maker (if known) if other than quilt owner.  Please complete registration form for each quilt entered into show.

  • All entries must be clean and made of fabric.  Soiled quilts will not be judged or displayed

  • No special handling or hanging requirements will be observed

  • Registration Form will be mailed with brochure, or can be requested by calling 931-537-3447.
     

Challenge Quilt—“Piece” of Christmas Joy
 

  • Our 2009 Challenge Quilt theme and contest is a Christmas theme

  • A 20”x20” finished wall hanging

  • The web has many quilt patterns for ideas or check your local quilt store

  • Any technique in piecing and quilting is acceptable
     

Security

Your quilt’s safety and security are important to us.  Twenty-four hour security is provided.  Viewers will receive gloves as they enter sites.  Hostesses will be at all locations to watch the quilts.  The Algood Senior Center, the Upper Cumberland Quilt Show Board, nor any individual can be held responsible for theft, loss, or damage to your show entry. 

Judging & Awards
 

  • Challenge Quilt—20”x20”—Theme, “Piece” of Christmas Joy
    Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd *(according to judge’s discretion)

  • Wall Hangings (small and large)
    Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places *(according to judge’s discretion)

  • Bed quilt (appliqué) completed 2006 or since (4” sleeve required)
    Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd *(according to judge’s discretion & Viewers’ Choice)

  • Bed quilt (pieced) completed 2006 or since (4” sleeve required)
    Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd *(according to judge’s discretion & Viewers’ Choice)
    Antique quilts are welcome.
